Which languages are supported?

English (US and UK), Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil), French, German, Italian, Turkish, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, and Arabic — in any direction.

Why does iOS ask to download a language?

Translation runs on your iPhone. The first time you use a language pair, iOS downloads that language once. After that it works offline. You can also manage downloaded languages in Settings → Apps → Translate → Downloaded Languages.

Live mode vs. turn-by-turn

With AirPods or other headphones connected, translations play in your ears while the other person keeps talking. Through the iPhone speaker the app listens first, then plays the translation when they pause, so the microphone never hears the phone's own voice.

The app can't hear anything

Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and make sure Live Translation is on. Point the bottom of your iPhone toward the person speaking and reduce background noise where you can.

Restoring a subscription

Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.

Canceling a subscription

Go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone and choose Live Translation. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
